Steve received his accounting degree from the University of Texas in May 1970 and certified in May, 1973. While at the University, he worked part-time with a local firm in Austin and, upon graduation, continued there on a full-time basis. The firm was later bought out by a national firm. Steve began working for another Austin accounting firm in 1971 and made partner the following year when the firm opened a Round Rock office. Since 1978, he has been a partner of Peña Swayze & Co., L.L.P., which merged with Maxwell Lock & Ritter in 2011. Steve retired from Maxwell Locke & Ritter on December 31, 2015. Steve formed Steve D. Peña, CPA, PLLC in January 2016, which concentrated solely on litigation support services. Steve merged his litigation support practice with Faske Lay & Co. in 2021.
